Australian Government Announced Changes to SOL

Annually thousands of people are migrating to Australia on different visas. In order to migrate to Australia based on your profession you need to have your profession listed in the SOL (Skilled Occupation List). This list is associated with many visas but one of the most popular is the Temporary Work visa (subclass 457) which was abolished and replaced by TSS (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa. The new TSS visa will be effective from March 2018. This new visa will support the business needs of Australia in more effective way as per the government.

The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is a list of different professions included from the government to respond to the needs of the economy. It is reviewed on a regular basis in order to secure adequate pool of skilled professionals entering the country.

 It is divided in two lists Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). The Australian department of Home Affairs announced the changes on January 17th.

There are several new occupations added to the STSOL – Property manager, Psychotherapist, Real estate representative. Important to note is that there are no occupations moved from MLTSSL to the STSOL.

There are two occupations that are removed from the occupations lists for all skilled visas since Jan 17th 2018. The occupations are Building associate and Hair or Beauty salon manager.

Several occupations are with caveat only changes. The occupations are as follows – Accommodation and hospitality managers, Management accountant, Massage therapist, Recruitment consultant, Supply and distribution manager, Taxation accountant.
